Opposition groups in the Madrid Assembly, Más Madrid, PSOE-M, and Vox, have walked out of the Drug Control Commission after the Popular Party submitted its conclusions beyond the agreed deadline, sparking strong criticism for violating parliamentary procedure.
The controversy arose when the Popular Party registered the final report of the commission on Tuesday, April 7, at 9:01 AM, exceeding the established deadline of Monday, April 6, at 2:00 PM. This action has been described by the opposition as a clear disregard for parliamentary agreements and the work undertaken.
“
"A clear violation of parliamentary law."
From the PSOE-M, the PP's attitude has been denounced as an "enormous lack of ethical criteria" and an "unacceptable political trickery," undermining the work of the commission and the experts involved. Socialist deputy Juan José Marcano emphasized the importance of respecting unanimous agreements on sensitive issues such as addictions.
“
"It is inadmissible for the Popular Party to disregard agreements adopted in a commission that, for the first time in a long time, was approved unanimously by all political groups and in which relevant and sensitive issues about addictions have been debated, affecting health, coexistence, the economy, youth, and families."
For its part, Más Madrid, led by Manuela Bergerot, views this incident as further evidence of the Popular Party's "sloppy drift," accusing them of disrespecting their own rules and those of the Assembly. Deputy Marta Carmona criticized that the commission has become a "pathetic soliloquy" where democracy is absent.
“
"When all groups in a commission abandon it and leave only one, it is because that one is behaving like a petty dictator."
