The decision, approved by the Board of Representatives on March 23 at the proposal of the COAM Governing Board, aims to honor individuals who, from different fields, have enriched the profession or the architectural discipline in general.
Among those honored are Amparo Berlinches Acín, an architect with a distinguished career in architectural and urban cultural heritage. Her work includes directing the Madrid Architecture Guide and restoring the Capilla del Oidor in Alcalá de Henares, in addition to chairing the association Madrid, Ciudadanía y Patrimonio.
Also recognized is Enrique Porto Rey, a doctor architect and urban planner, professor of Urbanism and Urban Planning at Etsam. He is the author of over twenty books and a hundred articles on practical urban planning in Spain, and has drafted general plans for various cities, including the partial plan for Los Cerros (Madrid). He served as Director General of Urbanism and Regional Planning for the Community of Madrid.
The painter, sculptor, engraver, and designer Guillermo Pérez Villalta, who began architecture studies before dedicating himself to art, has also been distinguished. His Mannerist style and participation in the movida madrileña, as well as his design of buildings such as the Kursaal de Algeciras, make him worthy of this recognition.
Finally, Pedro Ibáñez Albert, head of the COAM Graphic and Publications Service, has been named an honorary member. With a background in graphic design and art history, he joined the Official College of Architects of Madrid in 1974 and is a founding partner of ‘conarquitectura ediciones’.
This distinction, awarded since 1988, highlights the importance of recognizing individuals who, whether architects or not, bring significant value to architecture, a fundamental discipline for community life. The date for the insignia presentation ceremony will be announced soon.
