National Police Seize 1,235 Bladed Weapons in Madrid, 13% More

Seizures increased in the second quarter of 2026, with notable rises in automatic knives and military-style knives.

The National Police have confiscated 1,235 bladed weapons in the Community of Madrid during the second quarter of 2026, representing a 12.99% increase compared to the same period last year.

According to the Superior Headquarters of the Madrid Police, interventions rose significantly, from 1,093 weapons seized in 2025 to 1,235 in 2026. The police stations in Usera-Villaverde (161), Puente de Vallecas (115), and Alcalá de Henares (102) led the number of seizures. They are followed by Centro with 74 and Carabanchel with 67.
The most notable percentage growth was recorded by the Metro Section of the Mobile Brigade-Police in Transport, with a 163% increase from 11 to 29 weapons. Also standing out are Villa de Vallecas (126% more, from 15 to 34) and Pozuelo de Alarcón (125% more, from 4 to 9).
Police highlighted a 28% increase in the seizure of military-style knives and machetes or their imitations, which rose from 177 to 226. Furthermore, confiscated automatic knives increased by 68%, from 31 registered in the second quarter of 2025 to 52 this year.
In addition to these seizures, the National Police implemented 18 special security operations between April and June to enhance public safety during patron saint festivals and district celebrations in the capital and municipalities of the region, including operations during the festivals of San Isidro, Torrejón de Ardoz, Parla, and Getafe.
The Superior Headquarters of the Madrid Police stated that these figures reflect the force's efforts to increase security in the Community of Madrid.
