A 39-year-old worker lost his life early Wednesday morning in a workplace accident that occurred inside the railway tunnel of the C5 commuter line, in the section connecting Laguna and Embajadores stations, in Madrid. The operator was performing track maintenance work when he received a strong impact to the chest from the shovel of an excavator.
Emergency services from the 112 of the Community of Madrid received the alert about the incident at 00:55. Upon arriving at the scene, medical professionals from SUMMA 112 confirmed that the employee had suffered severe chest trauma and was in cardiorespiratory arrest.
Despite the severity of the clinical condition, the medical intervention teams performed advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers for approximately 40 minutes. However, the injuries were irreversible, and ultimately the medical staff could only certify the death of the operator, who belonged to a subcontracted company for the maintenance of the railway infrastructure.
Also participating in the assistance operation were units from the Madrid City Council Firefighters and patrols from the Madrid Municipal Police. Local police officers took charge of securing the scene of the incident and leading the corresponding investigation to prepare the technical report and clarify the exact circumstances of the tragic event.
