The Minister of Health and regional leader of Más Madrid, Mónica García, has announced her intention to run as her party's candidate in the 2027 regional elections to unseat the current president and her policies.
The announcement was made during the III edition of the La Madrileña festival, a party event held at the auditorium of Paraíso Park in San Blas-Canillejas. She was accompanied by spokespersons in the Assembly and the City Council, as well as deputy spokespersons in both chambers.

"I have learned that if you want to change things, you have to go to the root of the problems. If we want to change that root, we have to govern Madrid. If you support me, if you give me your backing, I want to be the next president of the Community of Madrid."
The minister emphasized that Madrid “runs through her veins” and that her experience as a doctor and minister has taught her the importance of “rolling up her sleeves and taking charge” to drive significant changes. She highlighted achievements such as the “Quirón law” and the expansion of healthcare rights.
García called for unity among her team, mentioning her colleagues and militants, to “reconquer” the future of Madrid. She expressed her conviction that they can win and reclaim the region for its citizens, urging them to reach out to every person in every neighborhood.
The Second Vice President of the Government and Minister of Labor and Social Economy, Yolanda Díaz, showed her support for Mónica García via the social network Bluesky, stating that Madrid is “in the best hands” and that García will build a “Community of hope, social justice, and rights.”
Sources from Sumar also backed García's candidacy, considering her the best option to challenge for the Community and “oust the PP once and for all from Madrid's institutions.”
In a meeting with militants in Fuenlabrada, Mónica García criticized that the Community of Madrid has become a “hideout for the worst populist policies” and an “epicenter of inequality.” She argued that changing the situation in Madrid would benefit the rest of the country and even the Popular Party.

"I have a very good relationship with the possible socialist candidate, and we both know that our opponent is the president. We don't compete among ourselves; I don't compete with the Socialist Party; we have never done so in Más Madrid."
The leader of Más Madrid, who reminded that her party is the main opposition force in the region, stated that her competition is not with the Socialist Party, but with the current president. She defended that the best strategy for the progressive space is to “change Madrid,” so that Madrid residents can enjoy the progressive policies promoted by the Government of Spain.
