The Governing Council has approved the tender proposal for this contract, which will cover both preventive maintenance and repair work. The main objective is to optimize the functioning of these infrastructures and expedite response times to any incidents, minimizing inconvenience for subway users.
As part of the agreement, the awarded companies will be required to supply step chains to replace a total of 147 units of escalators. This plan has been designed considering the age and useful life of each installation, thereby ensuring the highest standards of safety, availability, and reliability across the entire network.
This significant investment aligns with the regional government's strategy to enhance accessibility in public transport. Work has already begun on installing new escalators at key stations such as Prosperidad, Estrella, and San Blas.
Furthermore, construction is underway to incorporate new elevators at stations including Ventilla, Tetuán, Puente de Vallecas, Ciudad Lineal, Carabanchel, Canillejas, Campamento, and Alto de Extremadura. These actions complement modernization efforts at stations like Ventas, Santiago Bernabéu, and Duque de Pastrana, as well as the recent completion of the Avenida de América renovation, which is now fully accessible.
Currently, the Metro de Madrid network boasts 578 elevators and 1,709 escalators, positioning it among the most accessible metro networks in Europe.
