Madrid Metro has launched an emergency plan to mitigate the heat on Line 1, including a 3.5 million euro investment in air conditioning upgrades and platform cooling installations.

The Community of Madrid will intensify maintenance checks, install cooling systems on platforms, and invest 3.5 million euros to improve air conditioning systems on Line 1 and Line 5 of the subway.
These measures, announced by the Minister of Housing, Transport, and Infrastructure, Jorge Rodrigo, aim to alleviate the discomfort caused by high temperatures for travelers. The investment will be used to reinforce the air conditioning of 93 trains, affecting 744 air conditioning units.
Maintenance checks for all carriages on Line 1, the most affected, have been intensified. When a fault is detected in the air duct systems, the carriage is removed for repair. Simultaneously, 20 cooling systems have been installed on platforms for lines 1 and 5.
The metropolitan company has also acquired 80 new trains, which will be gradually incorporated, contributing to improved service quality in the coming years. The Community of Madrid acknowledges that high temperatures cause discomfort and assures efforts to enhance passenger comfort.
These actions also respond to an initiative by the Socialist Municipal Group in the Madrid City Council, which had announced its intention to bring this issue to district plenaries to urge the Community of Madrid to strengthen the inspection, control, and maintenance of air conditioning systems.
