The Community of Madrid has announced the implementation of a flat fare of €1.50 for single Metro tickets within Zone A, effective from next October. This change will do away with current price variations, which ranged between €1.50 and €2 depending on the journey and number of stations.
Regional president Isabel Díaz Ayuso announced this update during the State of the Region Debate, held at the Asamblea de Madrid. Zone A covers most of the municipality of Madrid, meaning this fare unification will significantly affect many occasional users of single tickets.
Furthermore, the Community of Madrid will introduce a new video call assistance service at Metro ticket vending machines. This system will allow travelers to connect in real-time with a specialized agent to resolve queries or complete ticket purchases with remote support.
Initially, the feature will be available on 209 machines in over 70 station lobbies, with plans to extend it to an additional 144 units between September and next summer. This initiative is part of the Estación 4.0 project, aimed at modernizing the Madrid subway's sales devices, backed by an investment of 9 million euros funded by the European Union's Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan.
