Madrid Metro will extend its closing time by one hour, until 2:30 AM on Sunday, June 7th, to accommodate the visit of Pope Leo XIV to the capital on Saturday, June 6th.

The Madrid Metro network will prolong its usual service by an hour, ending at 2:30 AM on the night of Saturday, June 6th, to Sunday, June 7th. This measure aims to facilitate travel for attendees of the vigil to be held at Plaza de Lima, near the Santiago Bernabéu stadium.
The Madrid City Council will complement this initiative by making EMT buses free between June 3rd and 9th, inclusive. Additionally, Bicimad rides will be free for the first half hour.
The president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, announced the Metro's extended hours, citing the "massive arrival of citizens from all over the world" and the reinforcement of trains to meet demand during the prayer vigil with young people.
The subway will increase its service by up to 125% on lines 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 during the papal visit. Interurban buses will also increase their frequency with 100 additional vehicles for pilgrims.
Furthermore, the Madrid leader recalled that from June 1st, direct payment with contactless bank cards will be available at the capital's 303 Metro stations. The security and service operation will mobilize over 600 workers.
