The strike, which already took place for weeks in February, March, April, and May, will extend until next Friday the 19th. This intermittent mobilization will once again lead to the suspension of hundreds of surgical interventions, consultations, and diagnoses in the region.
According to estimates from the Ministry of Health, the economic damage caused by the strikes since December amounts to 16,456,119 euros, with a total of 10,470 surgeries, 215,344 consultations, and 21,733 medical tests suspended to date.
The central event of this week will take place this Monday with a demonstration in front of the Ministry of Health at 12:00 PM, attended by union delegates and healthcare professionals from across the country. Subsequently, the Amyts union, the main organizer of the regional strike, has organized concentrations in front of key hospitals such as the 12 de Octubre Hospital (Tuesday) and the Puerta de Hierro Hospital in Majadahonda (Wednesday).
The protests will continue on Thursday in front of the Ministry of Health of the Community of Madrid, on Aduana street, and on Friday in front of the Ramón y Cajal Hospital, both at 10:00 AM.
This fifth week of strike will be the last before the summer. Unions have decided not to call for new mobilizations during the summer months out of responsibility, given the complexity of the healthcare system during that period. However, they plan to resume protests in September.
The strike follows the first-round approval by the Council of Ministers of the draft Framework Statute bill, which now begins its parliamentary process. The text is based on an agreement reached in January between the Ministry of Health and several unions, and is currently in a public consultation phase. The state Strike Committee and some Autonomous Communities have criticized the decision, urging the Ministry to seek a comprehensive solution to the conflict.
