The political party Más Madrid has communicated its stance regarding the upcoming 2027 regional elections in the Community of Madrid, ruling out a large-scale electoral alliance with Movimiento Sumar and Izquierda Unida (IU). Más Madrid's strategy will focus on forging coalition agreements solely in those municipalities where these forces have a significant presence, emulating the successful model of unified lists like the one in Rivas.
This decision aligns with the strategy that the party, led by minister Mónica García, has maintained since 2019. Más Madrid's electoral machinery is already in motion, with primaries underway where Mónica García herself heads the sole presented candidacy, following a prior agreement with regional deputy Emilio Delgado.
In parallel, Podemos, with its general secretary Ione Belarra at the helm, has announced its own candidacy for the regional elections. Sources from Más Madrid indicate that relations with other political actors will continue under a "variable geometry" approach, seeking specific alliances with IU or other local formations in key municipalities to ensure progressive majorities, but without considering the inclusion of IU or Sumar members in the main regional list.
The party insists on the need to separate the regional and state levels. At the national level, Más Madrid is committed to "lending a hand" to build a broad left-wing space that consolidates the progressive coalition government, as seen in several joint events under the slogan ‘Un paso al frente’ (A step forward).
Más Madrid rejects the notion that this stance could generate internal tensions, recalling that they already reached municipal agreements with IU in 2023, a context they consider less complicated than the previous coalition with Podemos for the regional elections. They emphasize that, at the regional level, there has never been a formal convergence with IU.
