An incident of hate has shaken Madrid's public transport system. A man has been arrested by the National Police in the city of Madrid for threatening and uttering serious antisemitic insults against a woman on the Metro. The events took place on May 16th.
The detainee began his intimidating behavior upon noticing that the victim was wearing a pendant with Jewish symbolism. The victim reported suffering all sorts of humiliating and threatening expressions, which caused her to have an anxiety attack and a well-founded fear of physical assault. The woman expressed her fear of using public transport again due to potential retaliation.
The police investigation was immediately launched given the severity and social impact of the incident. Following a search operation, the alleged perpetrator was identified and arrested on May 19th, just three days after the assault. The man has been placed at the disposal of the judicial authority as the alleged perpetrator of a crime against moral integrity.
