The 48th edition of this cultural event, organized by the Association of Second-Hand Booksellers of Madrid, will be held on Paseo de Recoletos from April 30 to May 17. Berrio's visual proposal evokes childhood, memory, and the captivating power of books, establishing the fair as an essential date in Madrid's cultural calendar for enthusiasts of out-of-print and rare books.
The main innovation this year lies in the duality of the poster. Juan Berrio's work is presented in two artistic versions that place the viewer in an intermediate point between the stalls and the promenade, between the literary world and that of readers. This composition suggests a space of refuge, discovery, and closeness, using a reduced color palette that, according to the author, aims to concentrate the image and connect it with 1950s poster art, yet with a cheerful tone reminiscent of spring.
Additionally, Berrio has included a tribute to Spanish publishing history, commemorating 150 years of Editorial Calleja, a benchmark in children's literature. This homage is materialized through the figure of a child discovering the world of stories, reflecting the fair's spirit, which, beyond sales, appeals to readers' sentimental memory and the joy of finding bibliographic treasures.
“"Juan Berrio has perfectly captured the soul of this Madrid fair, with an image that invites a nostalgic journey through the childhood of different generations."
The fair will feature the participation of 37 specialized bookstores, offering thousands of copies for all budgets, from paperback books for one euro to highly valuable collector's items, such as first editions, incunabula, and original manuscripts. Opening hours will be from 11:00 to 21:00, transforming Paseo de Recoletos into a major cultural showcase for the capital.
