The regional government reminds the public that swimming is only permitted in five designated natural spaces: the river beaches of Las Presillas (Rascafría), Los Villares (Estremera), Playa del Alberche (Aldea del Fresno), and El Muro and Virgen de la Nueva (San Martín de Valdeiglesias). In these authorized locations, periodic water quality analyses are conducted throughout the summer season.
The authorized river beaches will have a daily monitoring system from June 24 to September 10, with reinforcements on weekends. This team will include medical personnel from SUMMA112 and the Red Cross. Immersion in unauthorized areas can lead to serious risks, including drowning, impacts, cuts, sunstroke, burns, and contact with pathogenic microorganisms.
In other park areas, such as from the source of the Manzanares River to the Santillana reservoir, swimming is strictly forbidden. This measure aims to protect the environment and facilitate the ecological restoration of the upper Manzanares River course.
During the summer, patrols from the Body of Forest Agents, the Guardia Civil, and the Local Police will intensify surveillance in areas with high tourist traffic, especially in the pools of La Pedriza. Initially, checks will be informative, but fines will be issued to those who violate the regulations.
Last year, 20 fines were issued for swimming in unauthorized locations, with penalties ranging from 300 to 3,000 euros. The campaign seeks to raise awareness about the dangers and the importance of respecting environmental regulations for the conservation of flora and fauna.
