The Community of Madrid is preparing for the solar eclipse on August 12th, an astronomical phenomenon that will be visible in totality across the region. To facilitate its observation, 52 observation points have been established in various municipalities, particularly in the Sierra Norte, which is considered a prime location due to its favorable viewing conditions.
To mark this event, the regional government, in collaboration with the Buitrago del Lozoya City Council, has organized the Eclipse Festival at the Riosequillo Pools Recreational Area. The event will feature educational, scientific, cultural, and family-friendly activities, along with food trucks, music, and children's games.
Access to the festival is free upon online registration, up to a maximum capacity of 3,000 people. Attendees can also enjoy the exhibition Trío de Eclipses, provided by the Council of Education, Science, and Universities, which explores the historical, scientific, social, and artistic significance of this phenomenon.
In addition to Buitrago del Lozoya, 51 other Madrid municipalities will host observation points and educational activities led by monitors and experts. Informative leaflets will be distributed, and 36,500 certified glasses will be provided to ensure safe viewing, in addition to those already distributed.
The Madrid 112 Security Agency (ASEM 112) has planned measures to ensure citizen protection, including the activation of the Territorial Civil Protection Plan and reinforcement of emergency resources. Given the high temperatures, a call for caution is made to prevent fires.
The Regional Transport Consortium will strengthen bus lines connecting the capital with observation areas, such as line 191 (Madrid-Buitrago del Lozoya) and line 193 (Madrid-Pedrezuela-Venturada) from Plaza de Castilla Interchange. Services on other lines towards Sierra Norte and the Henares Corridor will also be increased.
Attendees are advised to plan their travel, use public transport, avoid driving and parking outside designated areas, and follow the recommendations of authorities and official sources.
