The II Tourism Conference by Madridiario analyzed the sector's challenges in an unstable world, emphasizing Madrid's role as a safe and strategic destination, with high-value cultural and hotel offerings.
Under the title 'Traveling in an Unstable World: Geopolitics and New International Tourism,' the second debate panel of Madridiario's II Tourism Conference addressed the main challenges facing the tourism sector. The current context, marked by conflicts such as those in Ukraine, Gaza, and Iran, and growing diplomatic tensions, has created a complex scenario for the industry.
The panel, moderated by a doctor in Tourism and former president of SKAL Spain, featured the participation of several experts. Among them were the director of the State Air Safety Agency (AESA), a board member of the Madrid Hotel Business Association (AEHM), the Operations Director of Hoteles 1881 (Vichy Catalan Group), and the Corporate Marketing Director of Ávoris.
“
"Safety, always with people at the center, is the absolute priority for the aviation sector, key when we talk about tourism."
The AESA director emphasized safety as an absolute priority for aviation, especially in Spain, given its location and the weight of tourism as the country's main industry. She highlighted that the aviation sector in Spain has adapted to every change, achieving a solid system with the highest international safety standards.
Despite challenges such as airport infrastructure saturation and the fuel crisis, significant investments are planned for adaptation, ensuring that Spain and Madrid remain a safe destination and a true refuge. One of the speakers noted that these difficulties open new possibilities to redefine Madrid's role as a strategic hub and commercial and tourist link between Europe and Latin America.
“
"Madrid is a refuge, a safe destination."
This situation represents an opportunity to consolidate the capital's extensive cultural, gastronomic, and urban offerings, which are very strong, with major concerts and festivals. An AEHM member highlighted Madrid's role as a top destination, thanks to the renovation of its hotel infrastructure and the goal of attracting high-value tourists. The collaboration of public administrations has been key to making the capital a stable, safe, and connected destination.
“
"To adapt the destination to the current unstable world, a message of trust and security must be sent directly to the heart because travelers do not want to stop traveling, but they want to do so to a place where they are cared for."
Finally, the Operations Director of Hoteles 1881 celebrated the welcoming and hospitable DNA of Madrid's residents, which allows visitors to feel at home, making the city a perfect product for tourism. He stressed the importance of creating safety, comfort, and well-being for travelers, areas where Madrid has great potential.
