Modern, high-efficiency window reflecting the Madrid cityscape.

The Community of Madrid has renovated 17,539 windows in 3,152 private homes with the latest Window Renovation Plan, investing 2.8 million euros. The initiative aims to improve energy efficiency, reduce emissions, and lower household electricity bills.

The Community of Madrid has renovated 17,539 windows in 3,152 private homes through the Window Renovation Plan. This initiative, backed by an investment of 2.8 million euros, aims to enhance energy efficiency, cut pollutant emissions, and lower electricity bills for households in Madrid, while also increasing citizen comfort.
The Regional Ministry of Environment, Agriculture and Interior highlighted the straightforward application process and reduced administrative burdens as key factors for the plan's success. Over the past year, 20,620 m² of glass have been installed, with an average surface area of 1.24 m² per window. The average subsidy per home was 898 euros.
This replacement of window frames has led to an estimated energy saving of 3.78 GWh, equivalent to the annual consumption of over 1,000 households. Furthermore, it has resulted in a reduction of 977 tons of CO₂ per year, comparable to taking more than 600 vehicles off the road.
The initiative has generated a market turnover of 23.4 million euros, with 19.7 million allocated to direct investment in construction and materials, and 3.6 million to Value Added Tax (VAT) payments. Each euro of public aid has mobilized over eight euros in economic activity.
The Regional Government has implemented this program through public-private collaboration, managed by the Energy Foundation of the Community of Madrid (FENERCOM). Key industry associations have actively participated, including the Spanish Association of Aluminium and Surface Treatments (AEA), the Spanish Association of Manufacturers of Lightweight Facades and Windows (ASEFAVE), the Spanish Association of Manufacturers of Wooden and Mixed Wood-Aluminium Windows (ASOMA), and the PVC Window Association (ASOVEN).
Looking ahead, the regional Executive is considering potential improvements, such as further simplifying administrative procedures for both installers and individuals, and introducing complementary mechanisms. The goal is to continue enhancing energy efficiency and reducing emissions, which are crucial for the region's decarbonization.
