The Madrid City Council has been honored with the 'Blue Pajarita' award for the fourth consecutive year, recognizing its sound practices in the selective management of paper and cardboard waste.

The Madrid council, represented by the delegate councilor for Cleaning and Green Spaces, José Antonio Martínez Páramo, received the distinction awarded by the Spanish Association of Pulp, Paper, and Cardboard Manufacturers (ASPAPEL). This award acknowledges excellence in the collection and management of paper and cardboard waste.
The 'Pajaritas Azules' program annually assesses the quality of municipal management, promoting continuous improvement. In 2025, the city of Madrid collected a total of 98,496 tons of paper and cardboard, marking a 5.85% increase compared to the previous year's 93,055 tons.
Data from 2025 shows that 86% of the collection was general paper-cardboard, while 13.93% came from commercial establishments. The City Council has strengthened its infrastructure, increasing the number of blue containers from 13,444 to 13,700, representing an additional volume capacity of 608,900 liters.
This growing trend in public awareness and the reinforcement of commercial collection, along with the municipal campaign 'Haz tu Magia' (Do Your Magic), have been crucial in improving the management of these recyclable materials.
