The PSOE of Madrid held a parallel event this Saturday, May 2, 2026, in the Rosaleda of Parque del Oeste, seeking to distinguish itself from the institutional celebration of the Community of Madrid and to denounce the veto of members of the Spanish Government.

The Madrid branch of the party chose to repeat the format of an open festival for all citizens in the Rosaleda. Despite this separate gathering, a delegation from the Socialist Parliamentary Group also attended the official event, demonstrating institutional loyalty. However, the party expressed its displeasure regarding the exclusion of members of the central Executive from a regional institutional celebration.
This discontent arises in a context where the general secretary of the PSOE of Madrid, who also serves as the minister of Digital Transformation and Public Function, leads the opposition in the Community, boasting a significant municipal presence, including 30 mayors and over 500 public officials.

"We are celebrating Dos de Mayo in an atmosphere of enthusiasm, desire, strength, and absolute mobilization to make it possible for Madrid to be at the forefront of good policies, fair policies, clean policies, policies of understanding, and not the sectarian policies we have today in the Community of Madrid."

the minister
Regarding the upcoming 2027 elections, the minister urged the seven million Madrid residents to channel "all their strength, all their enthusiasm, and all their desire" into the ballot boxes to achieve change in the region, following 30 years of Popular Party governments.
With its event in Parque del Oeste, the PSOE aims to contrast an open, party-led celebration with the institutional event presided over by the regional president, which they accuse of being designed for self-promotion. The date of Dos de Mayo also holds strong symbolism for socialists, as it coincides with the anniversary of the PSOE's founding by Pablo Iglesias Posse in Casa Labra in 1879.
Meanwhile, the president of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, also congratulated Madrid residents on the regional holiday. In a message posted on the social network X, he championed a "brave Madrid, with a burning soul and popular pride," linking the memory of 1808 with current political commitment.

"To honor the memory of the heroes and heroines of May 2nd is to work every day for a Madrid and a Spain with more rights, more coexistence, and more social justice."
