This increase, which will add 1,035,571 people to the region, will position Madrid as the third autonomous community with the highest percentage rise. The INE projections indicate that the total population will reach 8,204,833 inhabitants by 2041.
Nationally, Spain's population is expected to reach 53 million by 2076, an increase of 3.38 million people compared to 2026. This growth will be attributed exclusively to international migration, as the natural balance (births minus deaths) will be negative throughout the projected period.
The report details that while the number of births might slightly increase from 2026 to 2042, it will always remain below the number of deaths. The average fertility rate per woman is projected at 1.16 children in 2040, compared to 1.10 in 2024. Life expectancy, meanwhile, is expected to continue rising, projected at 87 years for men and 90 for women by 2075.
Population aging will be a marked trend, with a significant increase in the percentage of people over 65, rising from the current 21.1% to a peak of 30.9% in 2076. Concurrently, the centenarian population is expected to multiply by 13 over the next 50 years.
