The Governing Board of the Madrid City Council has approved the presentation of four Municipal Police Medals, the force's highest distinction. These awards recognize individuals and institutions for their contribution and ongoing collaboration with police work. The award ceremony will take place next week, coinciding with the commemorative events for San Juan Bautista, the official patron saint of the Madrid Municipal Police.
One of the medals will honor the organizing committee for the visit of Pope Leon XIV. As explained by the deputy mayor and municipal spokesperson, Inma Sanz, this recognition highlights the planning, coordination, and logistical implementation carried out during an event of international significance. The City Council emphasizes that the committee "exemplarily" coordinated the joint work among various administrations, security forces, and emergency services, projecting an image of Madrid as a safe and efficient city.
The Archdiocese of Madrid will receive another of the distinctions. Beyond the collaboration during the papal visit, the award acknowledges the constant institutional relationship maintained throughout the year during high-attendance celebrations such as Holy Week, the Almudena festivities, or those of the Virgen de la Paloma. The City Council stresses the Archdiocese's cooperation in facilitating police work at large-scale events that contribute to public order and the city's traditions.
The Mutua Madrid Open tennis tournament, celebrating its twentieth anniversary, will be the third recipient. The Municipal Police value the tournament's contribution to the capital's international projection and the coordination maintained over two decades between the event's private security, municipal services, and security and emergency forces, successfully managing the significant visitor flows.
Finally, the fourth medal will be awarded to the University Center of the Guardia Civil. This recognition honors its work in promoting higher academic training within the institution and its close collaboration with the Integral Center for Security and Emergency Training (CIFSE) and the Madrid Municipal Police through joint courses and training programs.
The presentation of these distinctions will take place during the San Juan Bautista celebration events, a festival that annually gathers members of the force in El Retiro park to acknowledge outstanding careers and collaborations.
