The Governing Council of the Community of Madrid has greenlit a new scholarship call designed to strengthen the regional education system. With a total allocation of 74 million euros, these grants are intended to support over 30,000 students pursuing Baccalaureate or Vocational Training (FP) during the upcoming 2026/27 academic year. The initiative underscores the regional government's commitment to equal opportunities and families' ability to choose their children's educational center, while also incentivizing academic performance.
The distribution of funds includes 43.5 million euros for Baccalaureate scholarships, which will benefit approximately 17,100 students enrolled in subsidized or private centers. Meanwhile, Vocational Training, recognized for its high employability, will receive 30.5 million euros, allocated to about 13,000 students in Intermediate and Higher Grades. This investment seeks to meet labor market demands and offer diverse training options.
One of the consolidated novelties in this call is the inclusion of academic merit as a determining criterion. Applicants can obtain up to two additional points based on their grades from the last completed course, fostering personal effort. However, access to these scholarships remains linked to the family's economic situation. Annual aid ranges from 3,750 euros for per capita incomes up to 10,000 euros to 2,000 euros for those between 10,000 and 35,913 euros. To qualify, students must be enrolled or have a reserved place in a regional center and must not have repeated a school year.
In the field of Vocational Training, aid adapts to in-person, virtual, and blended learning modalities. For Higher Grade, amounts range from 2,500 to 3,250 euros annually in the first year, and between 1,925 and 2,525 euros in subsequent years. Intermediate Grade students will receive between 1,659 and 2,765 euros per year. Requirements include residing in the Community of Madrid, being enrolled in an authorized private center, and meeting the established income thresholds.
The scholarship system also provides special protection for the most vulnerable families. Beneficiaries of the Minimum Insertion Income (RMI) or the Minimum Vital Income (IMV) will receive guaranteed fixed amounts: 3,500 euros for first-year Higher Grade students, 2,800 euros for second and third years, and 3,000 euros annually for Intermediate Grade. This measure aims to reduce early school leaving and ensure that young people with fewer resources have access to the same training opportunities.
Interested families should consult the official publication in the Official Gazette of the Community of Madrid (BOCM) in the coming days for application deadlines. The process will be carried out electronically through the www.comunidad.madrid website. These scholarships are renewable in subsequent years, provided that the initial conditions are maintained and the corresponding application is submitted, thus facilitating educational continuity.
