The Minister of Housing, Transport, and Infrastructure, Jorge Rodrigo, traveled with Miguel Induráin on Metro Line 6, from Moncloa to Ciudad Universitaria. Upon arrival, they inaugurated a new bicycle parking facility inside the station, designed to facilitate users' combination of both transport modes for their daily commutes.
To mark European Mobility Week, travelers bringing their bicycles can access the entire Metro de Madrid network free of charge today, as well as on Saturday and Sunday. This measure aims to facilitate intermodal travel and offer a convenient and efficient alternative for moving around the region.
With the opening of this new facility, Metro de Madrid now has a total of twelve bicycle parking areas at key stations, including Arganzuela-Planetario, Fuente de la Mora, La Peseta, Rivas Futura, Chamartín, Nuevos Ministerios, Colonia Jardín, Puerta del Sur, Plaza de Castilla, Moncloa, Plaza Elíptica, and Ciudad Universitaria.
Annually, over 2,000 people use the Madrid Metro system to transport their bicycles. Lines 12, 3, and 10 are the most utilized, particularly at stations such as El Casar, Príncipe Pío, San Cristóbal, Puerta del Sur, Plaza de España, Puerta de Arganda, Nuevos Ministerios, Arganda del Rey, Embajadores, and Plaza de Castilla.
Access with bicycles on Metro de Madrid trains is permitted according to established rules and schedules, which can be consulted on the Metro website. Additionally, on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays, bicycles are allowed throughout the entire day.
