Amidst the anticipation for Bad Bunny's concerts in Madrid, the city welcomes 'La Placita', a cultural event focusing on Puerto Rico's identity and customs, going beyond the artist's music. Held from May 29th to 31st at Calle Noviciado, number 4, the event aims to recreate the spirit of traditional Puerto Rican 'placitas' (squares).
Spearheaded by content creator Lola Montilla and Fiama Morales, founder of Wepa Madrid, 'La Placita' offers a diverse and free program. It includes workshops on traditional music like plena and salsa, DJ sets, tastings of emblematic products such as coffee and rum, and artistic activities. The goal is to showcase a broader view of Puerto Rican culture, often narrowly associated with reggaeton.
The event also features a talk on Bad Bunny's global impact, a children's book presentation 'La coquí nómada y el mar de estrellas' by Sara Gravell Ortiz, and encounters with visual artists like Carlos Mercado. Sponsored by Discover Puerto Rico, the initiative seeks to celebrate the Puerto Rican community in Madrid and invite discovery of the island.
Lola Montilla emphasizes that 'La Placita aims to bring Puerto Rican culture to Madrid through an immersive experience.' Malasaña was chosen for its cultural diversity and artistic sensibility, aligning with the project's philosophy. Entry is free but requires prior registration.
