The Community of Madrid's Health Department, led by Fátima Matute, has announced that the implementation of the registry for conscientious objectors to voluntary termination of pregnancy will be carried out with a focus on technical rigor, avoiding political impositions and guaranteeing the rights of professionals.

During the Plenary Session of the Assembly, Matute responded to a question from VOX deputy, Raquel Barrero, emphasizing the Community of Madrid's commitment to comprehensive care for women. At the same time, she assured that healthcare professionals exercising their right to conscientious objection would not be harmed.

"We are going to ensure comprehensive care for women, but without harming the most valuable asset we have in this healthcare system, nor pressuring those professionals who freely exercise their rights."

The councillor advocated for a strict application of jurisprudence, always compatible with constitutional rights and applicable legislation for professionals. She stressed that the regional Executive would protect the rights of healthcare workers, with special emphasis on the fundamental right enshrined in Article 16 of the Spanish Constitution.
Although the regional Government will comply with the precautionary measure issued by the courts, Matute explained that any action taken will be based on absolute respect and protection of the confidential, individual, and voluntary nature of conscientious objection, which can also arise subsequently. She insisted that the implementation would be carried out "without targeting" and without any employment consequences for professionals, whom she asked to "rest assured" with the current regional Government.

"Unlike those who propose simplistic solutions like yours, or coercive or inquisitorial solutions like the communists, here is the Government of the Community of Madrid, which will not allow any of the rights of those who make our healthcare great to be violated."

For her part, Barrero criticized the "freedom" that, according to her, the PP proclaims, questioning their "exquisite prudence" in defending a fundamental right such as conscientious objection. The Vox deputy also reproached that the public consultation for the objectors' registry was published on Holy Thursday, instead of opening a transparent debate on such a sensitive issue. The Superior Court of Justice of Madrid (TSJM) ordered the Community to launch this registry after admitting the precautionary measures requested by the Ministry of Health, led by Mónica García.

"The TSJM ruling has given them a perfect alibi to do what they always do. Look, do nothing and blame the other."
