The Community of Madrid has announced a new financial aid program totaling 6 million euros, aimed at around 5,500 students from the region's six public universities. These scholarships will fund undergraduate and master's studies for the 2026/27 academic year, prioritizing students experiencing financial hardship who have not received grants from the central government.
Since 2016, this regional initiative seeks to ensure "equality in the right to public education and to foster equal opportunities for all students in accessing and completing higher education," as reported by the regional administration. The distribution of funds among universities is based on the number of students enrolled in official programs.
Specifically, the University of Alcalá will receive 577,248 euros; the Autonomous University of Madrid, 794,778 euros; the Carlos III University, 556,160 euros; the Complutense University, 1,727,925 euros; the Polytechnic University, 1,028,475 euros; and the Rey Juan Carlos University, 1,315,414 euros.
Beneficiaries will be students enrolled in Madrid's public universities who demonstrate unfavorable economic circumstances. The goal is to ensure the continuity of their academic pursuits and prevent financial limitations from hindering the completion of their studies.
Aid for undergraduate studies will not exceed the public price for a full academic year's second enrollment. For master's students, the maximum amount will be 2,100 euros. Applications will be processed through calls published by the respective university centers.
These grants from the Community of Madrid can also cover other expenses related to university life, such as travel for exchange programs (SICUE or international degrees), accommodation costs for those residing away from home, the purchase of bibliographic or technical materials, and support services for mental health and personal well-being, among other items.
