The Governing Council has approved a Framework Agreement that will ensure the availability of these prosthetic meshes for the Madrid Health Service (Sermas) for an initial period of two years, with the possibility of extending it for another two years.
These devices act as a support that reinforces the abdominal wall, facilitating proper tissue healing after surgery. Their use helps stabilize the area, reducing the possibility of the problem recurring and improving patients' quality of life.
The meshes can be made from various harmless materials such as polypropylene, polyester, synthetic polymers, or biological collagen.
Centralized procurement will allow for better pricing due to the purchase volume and will simplify bureaucratic management in hospitals, which previously purchased these materials individually.
