The Governing Council of the Community of Madrid this week gave the green light to the establishment of the Youth Policies Board. This body, under the Ministry of Family, Youth and Social Affairs, is set up as a key space for collaboration and coordination in the development and monitoring of initiatives targeting Madrid's young population.
Among the primary objectives of this board is the promotion of projects that enhance the opportunities and well-being of young people in aspects such as personal, family, social, educational, economic, cultural, and civic participation. Furthermore, it will seek to offer various participation channels through youth associations, federations, and entities within the community.
The Board will also serve as a meeting point to share information on projects developed by the different ministries of the Regional Government in this area, as well as on the activities of its member entities. It will conduct periodic follow-ups on these actions, evaluate the achievement of set objectives, and analyze emerging needs.
The structure of the Youth Policies Board will include a Presidency, Vice-Presidency, Secretariat, and several advisory members. Notably, it will incorporate five representatives from youth entities and associations, aiming to strengthen the voice of young people within the body. It will also include one member from each ministry of the Regional Government and three representatives from the municipal sector, designated by the Federation of Municipalities of Madrid.
Additionally, a representative from an organization or association of older adults, proposed by the Regional Council of Seniors of the Community of Madrid, will be included. All members will be appointed for a four-year term.
The plenary session of the Board will meet at least twice a year in ordinary sessions. It can be convened extraordinarily by its president or at the request of at least one-third of the advisory members. The possibility of inviting experts and representatives from educational, university, or youth association spheres, as well as other sectors involved in the board's work, is contemplated.
