The Community of Madrid will celebrate the May 2nd festivities with a free spectacle of a thousand drones that will illuminate the capital's sky, projecting emblematic figures and scenarios of Madrid's history and culture.

The event, named Madrid en el cielo (Madrid in the Sky), will take place this Saturday starting at 10:00 PM, flying over the capital from Parque de la Cuña Verde, in the Latina district. Lasting 12 minutes, this show is positioned as the largest simultaneous drone spectacle held in Spain.
Inspired by the events and figures commemorating May 2nd, as well as representative monuments of the Community of Madrid, the show has been designed in collaboration with Indra. It will project up to 16 figures reflecting the region's history, symbols, and cultural heritage.
Among the highlighted images, the autonomous map will be drawn, along with the figure of Goya and a partial recreation of the painting The Third of May 1808. It will also feature an interpretation of the Puerta del Sol with Kilómetro 0, the Palacio de Cristal, the Monasterio de El Escorial, the Palacio Real de Aranjuez, and the University of Alcalá de Henares.
The devices will also create scenes that aim to reflect the region's cultural and social identity, such as a maja and a majo dancing a chotis, the transformation of the capital, the regional flag, a Metro car arriving at the station, and a couple looking at Madrid's starry sky.
The drones, from the Madrid-based company Umiles, a European leader in drone shows, will reach an altitude of 200 meters, allowing the show to be visible up to 2 kilometers away from Latina, a district celebrating its 50th anniversary as part of the city of Madrid. This initiative, coordinated by the Ministry of Digitalization, seeks to reinforce the commitment to innovation and project the Madrid brand as a global hub for modernization.
