The Instituto Cervantes was the chosen venue this Wednesday to reveal the image for FLMadrid26, which will take place in El Retiro Park from May 29 to June 14. The event was attended by Eva Orúe, director of the Fair, and Miguel Pang, the artist responsible for the design.
The FLMadrid26 poster is a vibrant composition showing dozens of figures engrossed in reading, adopting impossible and absurd postures, all grouped around a central pine tree. Pang explained that these characters emerged spontaneously in his field notebooks, page after page, which led him to conceive them as a “senseless slapstick.”
“"I realized that page after page, readers appeared in strange positions."
Humor, the thematic axis of this edition, is translated into the poster through dynamic images that, according to the author himself, seek to “awaken a smile and bring joy to this beautiful and essential fair.” Eva Orúe, for her part, endorsed the choice, highlighting how books foster critical thinking and humor strengthens daily resilience.
“"The poster is pure humor and love for books and for El Retiro. That is, pure humor and love for the Fair."
Additionally, an accessible version of the poster for visually impaired individuals was presented, an initiative that has been implemented in previous editions. Carmen Bayarri, director of the ONCE Bibliographic Service, emphasized the importance of offering “another way of reading,” such as braille, and linking literature with a fun and normalized approach to life. The poster will also be the image for the ONCE coupon to be drawn on Saturday, June 13, the penultimate day of FLMadrid26, with 5.5 million coupons distributed throughout Spain.
