Madrid Hosts Global Athletics Walking Elite in its 5th International Grand Prix

Gran Vía will become a stage for Olympic and World champions from 18 countries in the event's fifth edition.

Madrid's Gran Vía will transform into an international stage for athletics walking on Sunday, May 31st, hosting the 5th edition of the Madrid Marcha International Grand Prix.

The competition, part of the Gold circuit of the World Athletics Race Walking Tour, anticipates the participation of elite athletes from 18 countries, including Olympic and World champions. The event has seen significant growth since its inception, establishing itself as a global benchmark in the discipline.
The symbolic figure of this edition will be Ecuador's Jefferson Pérez, Olympic champion at Atlanta 1996 and triple world champion. Pérez will be honored and named Madrid Marcha Ambassador for Latin America, recognizing his influential career.
Joining him will be top athletes such as Italy's Massimo Stano, Olympic and World champion, and Brazil's Caio Bonfim, the recent world champion and Olympic medalist. Sweden's Perseus Karlstrom, European champion and World medalist, will also be present.
The Spanish representation will feature figures like Paul McGrath, World medalist and European runner-up, and Diego García Carrera, Olympic finalist and European medalist. Athletes such as Antía Chamosa and Daniel Chamosa lead a strong national contingent.
In the women's category, Mexico's delegation led by Alegna González, world runner-up, stands out. Japan will present a solid team with athletes like Hayato Katsuki, while Italy will feature Francesco Fortunato. Athletes from Germany, France, Portugal, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Finland, Turkey, China, Ethiopia, Algeria, Colombia, and Peru will also compete.
The event will distribute 22,000 euros in prize money and will be broadcast by RTVE via Teledeporte and RTVE Play, ensuring its international viewership.
