The Community of Madrid, in collaboration with Fundación SGAE and the cultural association El Otro Muro, has revived and revamped the Buero Vallejo Awards. This initiative, aimed at fostering creation and interest in performing arts among young people aged 14 to 26, introduces three categories: School Theatre, University Theatre, and Schools and Companies.
The jury, comprising industry figures such as actor Jimmy Castro and director Ainhoa Amestoy, acknowledged the artistic excellence and creativity of the submissions. 'Bar Manolo' not only secured the main award in the University Theatre category but was also recognized for its overall quality.
In the Schools and Companies category, the award went to 'Las heridas cerradas también sangran' (Closed Wounds Also Bleed). Meanwhile, 'La La Land: La ciudad de las estrellas' (La La Land: City of Stars), an adaptation staged by Colegio San Alfonso de Madrid, triumphed in the Schools and Institutes category.
The Buero Awards originated in 2004 and remained active until 2023, accumulating a significant track record with over 2,000 theatre groups participating and engaging approximately 200,000 young people.
The jury also recognized the acting talent of young performers Luna Blasco Rodríguez, Asier Rojas, Vega Manzano, Robert Parra, and Mia Karol Benítez for their outstanding performances. The award winners will have the opportunity to participate in a youth theatre showcase and training workshops.
