The labor conflict maintained by Madrid's medical staff regarding the reform of the Marco Statute has left a significant financial and healthcare footprint in the region. According to data provided by the Ministry of Health, the economic damage derived from the strike days initiated in December amounts to a total of 15,013,399 euros.
Throughout this semester of mobilizations, healthcare activity has undergone notable alterations. Official figures detail the suspension of 9,634 surgeries, the cancellation of 195,798 appointments, and the postponement of 20,401 diagnostic tests. These figures reflect the magnitude of the impact on the public system in Madrid during the different phases of stoppages that have taken place since the end of last year.
Currently, the medical collective is in its fourth week of intermittent indefinite strikes. After holding protest days in February, March, and April, medical professionals have scheduled a new call for mid-June. Nationally, this strike is promoted by the Spanish Confederation of Medical Unions (CESM) along with other organizations.
At the regional level, the Strike Committee groups the unions Amyts, SIME, MUD, and AME. The called strike covers all medical personnel, including Primary Care, Hospital, and Extrahospitalary Care, as well as residents. The measure affects both personnel from the Madrid Health Service (SERMAS) and those from affiliated centers.
