From theatrical routes to family workshops, including concerts and shows, the cultural offerings aim to bring heritage closer to citizens. This initiative is part of the annual celebration of International Museum Day, established in 1977 by the International Council of Museums (ICOM), under this year's theme: “Museums uniting a divided world.”
Among the highlights of the program is the theatrical route ‘Letras y espadas por el Barrio de las Letras’, taking place on Saturday, May 16. This tour, led by the Vataria company, will allow participants to immerse themselves in Madrid's Golden Age, accompanied by historical and literary figures. Additionally, the Lope de Vega House Museum, where the writer spent the last 25 years of his life, will have an extraordinary opening on Monday, May 18, coinciding with the holiday.
In Buitrago del Lozoya, the Picasso-Eugenio Arias Collection Museum will offer two distinct activities. On Saturday the 16th, families can enjoy the ‘My Picasso Museum’ workshop, while on Sunday the 17th, ‘Titiriscopio’ will be presented, a show combining puppets and live holograms to tell the story of the friendship between Pablo Picasso and his barber. Meanwhile, the Nuevo Baztán Interpretation Center will host a baroque music concert on Saturday the 16th and a traditional esparto spinning workshop on Sunday the 17th, a technique declared an Asset of Cultural Interest of Intangible Heritage.
The CA2M Museum in Móstoles will showcase its latest contemporary art exhibitions, including ‘Between Heaven and Earth’, ‘Minor Architecture’, and ‘Again and Again’. Finally, Alcalá de Henares joins the celebration with the White Night, offering extraordinary openings until midnight at the Archaeological and Paleontological Museum of the Community of Madrid (MARPA) and the Cervantes Birthplace Museum. The MARPA will present the show ‘Apollo. Art and Myth’ on Friday the 16th and a paleontology workshop on Saturday the 17th, while the Cervantes Birthplace Museum will invite visitors to leave messages of peace and explore the exhibition ‘With Cape and Sword. Fashion in Cervantes' Time’.
