The Community of Madrid has authorized the contracting of works for the expansion of Metro Line 11, with an investment of €880.6 million, the largest of the legislature.

This ambitious extension will connect Valdebebas Norte with Mar de Cristal, creating a new metropolitan axis that will facilitate access to important economic, health, judicial, and transport hubs in the region.
The project covers a 7.2-kilometer section and will include four new stations: IFEMA-Cárcavas, Ciudad de la Justicia, Hospital Isabel Zendal, and Valdebebas Norte. Additionally, it will link with existing infrastructure at Mar de Cristal (connecting with lines 4 and 8) and at T4 Airport (with line 8 and Cercanías commuter rail), reinforcing intermodality.
From Mar de Cristal, the new line will serve the expansion of IFEMA, the future MADRING urban circuit, and the surrounding economic activity area. It will continue towards the Valdebebas interchange, improving the connection with the south of the urban development and the future Ciudad de la Justicia.
The route will proceed to the Hospital Enfermera Isabel Zendal, facilitating access to the hospital complex and its surrounding area, and will conclude at Valdebebas Norte, serving new residents and completing the public transport network in one of the region's largest urban developments.
This expansion, aimed at reducing travel times and easing congestion on other metro lines like L6, is in addition to the ongoing works between Plaza Elíptica and Conde de Casal, the first section of the future major diagonal Metro line.
Work is progressing well, having reached milestones such as the arrival of the tunnel boring machine Mayrit at the new Madrid Río station, completing the connection between the two excavation fronts.
