The Community of Madrid presents a packed cultural agenda for the fourth week of the Summer Scenes Festival. This festival continues to bring music, performing arts, contemporary art, and family activities to various municipalities across the region. Notably, the Classics in Summer initiative will use churches, monasteries, and other heritage sites as concert venues.
The Summer Scenes Festival also includes new events in the Performing Arts in Municipalities cycle and the Living Art in the Plaza week, which brings contemporary creation to public spaces through participatory interventions in different Madrid towns.
Furthermore, the exhibition Ana Locking. Nostalgia / Utopia, which has attracted over 50,000 visitors, has been extended until September 27 at the Sala Canal de Isabel II. Concurrently, the exhibition Modern Mythologies: Ouka Leele & Co, at the Sala Alcalá 31, continues to showcase the work of the renowned Spanish photographer Ouka Leele.
The program is complemented by activities such as Summers in the Park, family events at the Lope de Vega House Museum, workshops at the Picasso Museum-Eugenio Arias Collection, and a wide range of exhibitions in the region's museums and galleries.
The Classics in Summer festival will transform Madrid's historical heritage into musical stages. Throughout the weekend, churches and historic buildings in ten municipalities will host concerts of ancient, baroque, and chamber music performed by leading specialized soloists and ensembles.
Scheduled performances include Cello Squared by the Dúo Akari in Loeches and Garganta de los Montes; Harmonia's Caprices by Harmonia del Parnàs in Pinilla del Valle and Bustarviejo; A Solo by violinist María Martínez in Gargantilla del Lozoya and Tielmes; Ayers of the Baroque by Aylanto at the Monastery of Santa María la Real de Valdeiglesias (Pelayos de la Presa); In the Echoes of Corelli by Les Amusements in Torremocha del Jarama and La Acebeda; and Manuel de Falla and the Parisian Circle by the Dúo Váray-Sorozábal in Villarejo de Salvanés.
The Performing Arts in Municipalities cycle will bring theater, circus, and street arts to public squares and spaces. Highlights include performances like Rodeo by La Banda de Otro, Rube by Alodeyá, Agatha, Are You There? by Compañía Zero 10, WC by David Cebrián, Zar-suela by Zigurat Band, and Little Magic Circus by La Fábrica de Sueños.
The Living Art in the Plaza initiative, coordinated by LaJuan Gallery, will turn squares and streets into spaces for artistic experimentation and citizen participation until September 6. Artists such as Mónica Mura, Sara Gema, Mocholi, Yolanda Andrés, and Julio Linares will participate in locations including Belmonte del Tajo, Manzanares el Real, Buitrago del Lozoya, and Villar del Olmo.
In the capital, Summers in the Park at Santander Park will offer free cultural leisure activities until August 29, including a performance by the company Circ Bover with Orquestina Vulpini.
The Lope de Vega House Museum presents a children's film and theater cycle in July, featuring films such as Teresa, Emily, I, the Worst of All, and The Ensign Nun, along with puppet shows and storytelling by Pequeteatro.
The Picasso Museum-Eugenio Arias Collection in Buitrago del Lozoya is organizing summer workshops for families, including the July 25 session titled Beyond Cubism: Picasso's Private Obsessions.
The exhibition Ana Locking. Nostalgia / Utopia, curated by Alberto Gonper, can be visited at the Sala Canal de Isabel II until September 27, following a closure in August. The exhibition explores fashion as an artistic, narrative, and emotional language.
The Sala Alcalá 31 continues to host the exhibition Modern Mythologies: Ouka Leele & Co, examining mythology in Madrid's art scene of the eighties. Other notable exhibitions include A Journey to the Sea of Shadow. Salitre Knights at the Regional Library of Madrid, Madrid Under Construction, 1940-1985 at the El Águila Cultural Complex, and shows at the Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo Museum (CA2M), the Cervantes Birthplace Museum, and the Archaeological and Paleontological Museum.
