The mobilization, promoted by the Working Group to Save the Lagoons and the Ambroz Environment, seeks to demand the protection of this natural enclave located between the districts of Vicálvaro and San Blas-Canillejas. The gathering is scheduled for 8:15 PM at the Cuña Verde Park in Vicálvaro, from where participants will proceed to the lagoon to encircle it in a "symbolic embrace".
The groups denounce that the operation, authorized by the Community of Madrid and promoted by the company Tolsa, endangers the biodiversity of the area, which hosts over 400 trees and various habitats of environmental value. They are calling for the definitive suspension of the project and demanding urgent protection measures from the authorities.
“"Faced with this stance, the organizers demand the definitive suspension of the project and ask the administrations for urgent protection measures."
Among their demands are the reclassification of the area as protected non-developable land by the Madrid City Council, as well as a study on the impact of mining activity on the health of the nearby population.
Furthermore, they urge the Community of Madrid to include the lagoons in the regional catalog of wetlands, the Hydrographic Confederation of the Tajo to incorporate them into hydrological planning, and the creation of a large green zone to function as an ecological corridor connected to the Southeast Regional Park.
