The Madrid restaurant Giro, specializing in handroll sushi, has been honored with one of the three prizes at the La Base Awards Young Entrepreneurs 2026. This initiative, driven by BBVA and ScrapWorld, aims to support freelancers and small businesses in the urban fashion sector that are in a growth phase.
Out of 130 participants who entered the competition, the three winning projects will have the valuable opportunity to showcase and sell their products at ScrapWorld 2026, an event scheduled for April 25 and 26 at IFEMA Madrid.
Giro's concept involves adapting traditional sushi to the dynamic urban consumption pace through the handroll format. The establishment, which already has a location in La Latina neighborhood, promotes faster, more social, and informal dining, specifically targeting a young audience aged between 20 and 35.
The jury valued not only the product proposal but also the experience generated by the space and its unique identity. The idea stems from making sushi more accessible and linking it to an urban lifestyle where consumers seek to identify with the places they frequent.
In addition to Giro, two other projects have received recognition. PongoTodo, from Barcelona, offers a new understanding of decorative lighting with pieces that combine design, functionality, and an emotional component. Meanwhile, Maison Murano, a streetwear brand from Málaga, focuses on self-expression through experimental designs and a direct connection with its community.
These three distinguished projects will play a central role at ScrapWorld 2026, where they will have the chance to gain exposure to thousands of visitors and potential clients. The event, which brings together brands and creators from the urban sector, is poised to be a crucial platform for these entrepreneurs to solidify their market presence and expand their network of contacts.
