Fundación Occident has facilitated the stay of around thirty leading researchers at the CNIO since 2009, strengthening global scientific ties and seeking new cancer treatments.

Since 2009, Fundación Occident has supported the stay of approximately thirty internationally renowned researchers at the National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO). This program's primary objective is to forge worldwide scientific connections and explore new avenues for cancer treatment.
This year's visiting professors are addressing various research lines, including the study of small proteins with potential as oncological therapies, the complex relationship between cancer and obesity, and the development of new strategies to combat brain metastasis.
The Fundación Occident Visiting Researchers program, active at the CNIO since 2009, facilitates collaboration between international scientists and Spanish research groups. This exchange fosters the generation of innovative ideas through informal interactions and open conversations, complementing formal laboratory work.
Among the visiting researchers are Nicola D’Amelio from the University of Picardie Jules Verne (France), collaborating with Jorge Martínez Torrecuadrada of the CNIO on studying proteins to enhance cancer therapies. Hind Medyouf from the University of Aachen (Germany) is also participating, investigating the link between obesity and metastasis alongside Alejo Efeyan, Guadalupe Sabio, and María Casanova from the CNIO.
Furthermore, Pablo González Cámara, from the University of Pennsylvania (USA), has joined the CNIO to collaborate with Manuel Valiente in the search for new drugs against brain metastasis. The program also welcomes Todd Yeates, who has previously collaborated with Roger Castells-Graells and will return in September.
Over the years, the program has enabled visits from numerous renowned scientists, including David Goldgar, Rama Khokha, Mercedes Rincón, and Eva Nogales, among others, enriching oncological research at the CNIO.
