Emergency services in Madrid responded this Saturday, April 18, to a major fire on the ninth floor of a residential building in the Usera district, where one woman was rescued, but two pets tragically perished.

The fire, which erupted on the ninth floor of a residential property, generated a large column of smoke visible from various points in the area. Flames even broke through the facade, alerting residents and prompting a rapid response from emergency teams.
Madrid City Council Firefighters quickly arrived at the scene, managing to control and extinguish the blaze. Their intervention was crucial in preventing the flames from spreading to adjacent apartments, thereby minimizing material damage to the block.

The swift intervention of the emergency personnel prevented the flames from spreading to neighboring apartments in the block.

During the operation, firefighters rescued the sole occupant of the dwelling, a woman who was immediately attended to by SAMUR-Protección Civil paramedics. After being stabilized for mild smoke inhalation, she was transferred to Hospital 12 de Octubre for a more thorough check-up, although her prognosis is mild.
Unfortunately, the incident had a tragic outcome for the household's pets. Firefighters confirmed the death of two cats that were inside the property at the time of the incident and could not be saved.
Agents from the Municipal Police of Madrid and the National Police collaborated closely in the security and firefighting operation, responsible for securing the area and facilitating the work of the emergency teams. Support from SUMMA112 was also provided.
