Municipal sources have confirmed the death of the magistrate, whose professional career was closely linked to the Madrid City Council. López de la Riva joined the institution in 2006, during the term of Alberto Ruiz-Gallardón, and held the position of Secretary General of the Plenary for nearly two decades.
A law graduate from the University of Deusto, López de la Riva also became a magistrate in administrative litigation, a position from which he was on leave. Previously, in 2012, he served as a lawyer at the Constitutional Court.
Throughout his years at the City Council, he handled matters of considerable legal complexity. These included the emergence of the Mixed Group in a previous term and the situation of the VOX Municipal Group. His schedule included presiding over the double plenary session planned for this Tuesday, which comprised the ordinary session and the State of the City Plenary.
