These 78 professionals have completed an intensive five-week program, combining theoretical and practical training over seven-hour days. To ensure their readiness, they underwent a thorough medical examination and conducted real-world driving practices, both with and without passengers, guaranteeing their suitability for the demands of urban service from day one.
With these recent additions, EMT Madrid has brought on a total of 118 new drivers so far in 2026, including five who came from internal mobility processes. This consistent growth in the workforce is crucial for maintaining the quality and efficiency of public transport in the city.
Staff expansion has been a priority for EMT Madrid in recent years. From late 2019 to April 2026, the company has hired 2,270 professionals. In 2025 alone, 478 drivers were incorporated, while in 2024 there were 369, and in 2023, 322. These figures demonstrate a sustained pace of growth that allows EMT Madrid to meet daily demand and strengthen its bus lines.
In previous years, the growth trend was also significant: 280 drivers joined in 2022, 252 in 2021, and 358 in 2020. This commitment to hiring new personnel underscores the dedication of the Madrid City Council and EMT Madrid to sustainable mobility and the continuous improvement of public transport, in line with the Madrid 360 Environmental Sustainability Strategy.
The arrival of these new professionals not only optimizes the company's operational capacity but also reinforces its commitment to users, offering a more agile, accessible, and reliable service, and providing stability to a profession essential for urban mobility in Madrid.
