The Socialist Municipal Group has proposed that the men's first team of Rayo Vallecano be the grand marshal for the upcoming Virgen de la Torre festivals in Villa de Vallecas.

The Socialist Municipal Group (PSOE) in the Madrid City Council has registered a proposal for debate in the Plenary Session of the Municipal District Board of Villa de Vallecas. The objective is for the members of the men's first team of Rayo Vallecano to be designated as the grand marshals for the upcoming festivals of the Virgen de la Torre.
The proposal, championed by the socialist spokesperson in the district, Ignacio Benito, and formalized by local councilor María del Rosario Aguilar Gamarra, aims to recognize the "most glorious page" in the club's centenary history. During the current 2025-2026 season, the Vallecano team has achieved, for the first time in its 102-year existence, the final of the UEFA Conference League.
From the PSOE, they highlight that the team has acted as an "ambassador" for the neighborhood in stadiums and on television across the continent. According to Ignacio Benito, the squad's sporting performance reflects values that identify the district, such as "humility, effort, resilience, and identity."
The initiative emphasizes that the team conducts its training sessions in the district of Villa de Vallecas and believes that its sporting trajectory has restored "collective enthusiasm" to the fans. In the registered document, the socialists underline that, although the team did not win the trophy after the final played in Leipzig, the merit of reaching such a milestone—starting from lower divisions like Segunda División B—is a source of pride that deserves recognition at the district's festivals.
For the proponents, the Rayo Vallecano squad represents the "bravery, courage, and nobility" that define the neighborhood. Therefore, they consider them the ideal candidates to open the festivities of the Virgen de la Torre, a celebration that annually brings together residents and associations around the history and values of Villa de Vallecas.
The proposal will be debated in the ordinary session of the Municipal District Board scheduled for today, June 9, 2026.
