Madrid's Mayor, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, has urged companies in the capital to implement remote work policies between June 3rd and 9th. This measure aims to mitigate the substantial traffic and mobility issues anticipated due to the Pope's upcoming visit to the city.
The Pontiff's visit, described by the mayor as a "historic event" of "unprecedented magnitude" for Madrid, will involve a significant deployment of security, emergency, and mobility services, impacting traffic in key areas such as Cibeles and Lima.
Traffic restrictions will extend beyond the Pope's stay (June 6th-9th), with disruptions expected for ten days prior and two days following the visit, considerably widening the period of impact on urban mobility.
To facilitate movement for residents and visitors during this time, the City Council will offer free rides on EMT Madrid buses and permit all taxis to operate on June 6th and 7th.
