Pope Leo XIV to Visit Madrid in June with a Packed Institutional and Social Agenda

The Spanish capital will be the first stage of the Pontiff's journey, including meetings with authorities, youth, and homeless individuals.

Pope Leo XIV will visit Spain between June 6 and 12, starting his tour in Madrid with an agenda that includes institutional, pastoral, and social engagements, according to the official program released by the Vatican.

The Pontiff's arrival is scheduled for Saturday, June 6, at 10:30 AM at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport. An hour later, the official welcome ceremony will take place at the Royal Palace, where he will also pay a courtesy visit to the King and Queen and deliver his first speech to authorities, civil society, and the diplomatic corps.
That same afternoon, Leo XIV will travel to Madrid's Lucero neighborhood to visit the Cedia 24 horas social center, managed by Cáritas, where he will meet with homeless people. The day will conclude with a prayer vigil with young people in Plaza de Lima, marking the first major mass event of his trip.
Sunday, June 7, will feature a mass celebration in Plaza de Cibeles, with the Corpus Christi procession and a homily by the Pope. In the afternoon, he will hold a private meeting with the Order of Saint Augustine and later participate in the 'Weaving Networks' event at the Movistar Arena, alongside representatives from the cultural, economic, and sports sectors.
Monday, June 8, will be a key day institutionally. The Pontiff will meet at 09:30 AM with the President of the Government at the Apostolic Nunciature. Afterward, he will address the Congress of Deputies, becoming the first Pope to deliver a speech to the Chamber. Subsequently, he will meet with Spanish bishops at the headquarters of the Episcopal Conference and, in the afternoon, will lead a gathering with the diocesan community at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium.
The agenda in Madrid will conclude on Tuesday, June 9, with a meeting with volunteers at Ifema, after which the Pontiff will depart for Barcelona. Although not officially on the agenda, sources from the Madrid Executive have confirmed that the Holy Father will also meet with the regional president before continuing his journey through Spain.

The International Press Center will be located in the Real Casa de Correos, in Puerta del Sol, and will operate 24 hours a day, with capacity for over 2,000 journalists and more than 1,000 square meters of facilities. The Real Casa de Postas will be used for rest, and Puerta del Sol will feature additional infrastructure such as screens and areas for live broadcasts.

Outside the capital, the Pope will visit the Brians 1 penitentiary center in Barcelona and the Sagrada Familia on Wednesday, June 10. On Thursday, June 11, his journey will continue in the Canary Islands, focusing on the migratory reality in Gran Canaria. The visit will conclude on Friday, June 12, in Tenerife, where he will meet with migrants at the Las Raíces reception center before returning to Rome.
