The former IMAX cinema in Madrid's Tierno Galván Park will be transformed into a new theater dedicated to musicals, with the production 'Moulin Rouge! The Musical' scheduled for its inauguration in 2027.

The production company Stage Entertainment España has announced that the show to bring the new venue to life will be 'Moulin Rouge! The Musical'. This production, based on the acclaimed film by Baz Luhrmann, will arrive in the Spanish capital after seven years of international success.
The musical features direction by Tony Award winner Alex Timbers, a book by Tony Award winner John Logan, musical supervision by Tony Award winner Justin Levine, and choreography by Tony Award winner Sonya Tayeh. The producer describes the work as 'a theatrical celebration of Truth, Beauty, Freedom, and above all, Love'.
This new space, named Stage Gran Teatro Musical, will have over 1,500 seats and will be managed by the production company under a concession agreement for the next 42 years. Renovation work, which included the demolition of the cinema's former dome, is expected to conclude in 2027.
Concurrently, Stage Entertainment España has opened a casting call to select dancers for the principal, secondary, and ensemble roles in 'Moulin Rouge! The Musical'. Interested individuals can register on the official website before June 17. Auditions will take place in Madrid between June 25 and July 3, 2026.
