The Madrid Railway Museum is participating in the celebration of International Museum Day on May 17 and 18, offering a special program that includes open days, workshops, and historical train rides for all audiences.

Under the theme 'Museums uniting a divided world', this year's edition of International Museum Day highlights the crucial role of these institutions in fostering respect and coexistence among diverse communities. The Railway Museum, located in the historic Delicias station, joins this initiative with a series of events designed for all ages.
On Sunday, May 17, the museum will open its doors from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM with free admission. Visitors can enjoy an exhibition of railway models, guided tours inside historic vehicles such as the 1949 Talgo II or the 1965 TER 597-010-8 railcar, and family workshops like 'Create your railway cap'. Additionally, there will be rides on garden trains and a historic railcar, the RENFE 9121, which will offer exhibition journeys.
The program also includes a family scavenger hunt titled '175 years of railway in Madrid', celebrating the history of the city's first railway. Attendees will receive a cut-out train as a welcome gift, courtesy of Renfe and while supplies last.
On Monday, May 18, the museum will host a special inclusion day in collaboration with Renfe and the Aprocor Foundation, aimed at people with intellectual disabilities. In the afternoon, at 7:30 PM, a commemorative concert will be held by various groups from the Almudena Cano Municipal Music School, with free admission until full capacity is reached.
The Madrid Railway Museum, whose headquarters are in the capital's first monumental station inaugurated in 1880, is a benchmark of Spanish industrial architecture. Its permanent exhibition narrates the history of the railway system, highlighting the evolution of traction (steam, electric, and diesel) and the 'Territorio Ferroviario' model, the largest in Spain with moving trains. In 2024, it was recognized as 'Best Popular Culture Museum' at the National Geographic +Historia Readers' Awards.
