The Agrarian Science Institute (ICA) in Madrid joins the European Researchers' Night on September 25th, opening its doors to demystify scientific research and its connection to daily life and food. The center aims to demonstrate that science is present in our daily lives, especially in the food we consume.
Visitors will receive a "scientific passport" to act as a guide throughout the event. This travel journal will include a map and allow attendees to collect a stamp at each workshop, certifying their journey through the presented research.
Through four activities led by different research groups, participants will experience firsthand the daily scientific work. Tech4Agro will showcase the use of technology in precision agriculture; SpecLab will take attendees to the heart of a sentinel dehesa for climate change; the Sustainable Agriculture and Biogeochemistry (SAB) group will organize a "micro-cluedo" to turn attendees into soil detectives; and the Plant Pathogen Vector Insects (IVPP) team will present the invisible battle between viruses, plants, and insects. Additionally, the Greenhouse and Climate Chamber Service will teach about plant development from the seed stage.
Upon completing the passport, attendees will have a guide to review the discovered curiosities and understand the connection between precision agriculture and food security, highlighting how science works together at the ICA.
All activities are designed to be accessible to anyone, without prior knowledge, emphasizing the importance of caring for soils and crops. The event will take place at the Agrarian Science Institute from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM. Reservations are required via an online form starting September 14th.
