The Madrid Food Bank (BAM) is holding its Spring Collection on June 5th, 6th, and 7th in over 1,000 establishments across the Community of Madrid, with the goal of collecting 500,000 kilograms of basic food items.

The initiative seeks to replenish BAM's warehouses to continue providing a daily meal to nearly 100,000 people through more than 500 charitable organizations. The campaign is crucial given the usual drop in donations during summer and the high number of people at risk of poverty in the region, exceeding one million.
Factors such as housing costs, rising prices, and job insecurity have increased the number of individuals facing economic hardship, many of whom are employed. To alleviate the food scarcity or deficiency they experience, BAM is calling on the citizens of Madrid to contribute to this Spring Collection.
Queen Sofía will support the campaign's launch on Friday, June 5th, by visiting a donation point in Madrid to raise awareness and meet the volunteers.
Citizen collaboration can take several forms: through monetary donations at checkout when paying for purchases in participating food chains, which will be exchanged for basic food items. Some chains will also allow donations of non-perishable physical food items. This system optimizes logistics and reduces costs.
Monetary donations are eligible for tax deductions. Donors can register their purchase receipt on the campaign website, www.granrecogidamadrid.org, for BAM to send the corresponding tax certificate.
Alternatively, direct donations can be made to the Madrid Food Bank via its website or through BIZUM 33632. Both methods also qualify for tax deductions and are an effective way to donate during the Spring Collection, especially as it coincides with other events in the city.
