The decision was announced by the mayor, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, following the confirmation that one of the party's councilors has officially become an independent member. The President of the Plenary, Borja Fanjul, rejected the group's request to appoint a replacement for the spokesperson role.
The municipal government stated that institutional caution requires waiting for the Justice system to determine the final status of other members currently involved in legal procedures regarding their party membership. The internal management of the municipal group is currently impacted by these disputes, which include the dismissal of precautionary measures regarding previous expulsions.
The mayor expressed concern that the future and operations of a political group at Cibeles are being decided in court. He emphasized the need for municipal groups to maintain institutional normalcy to ensure the City Council functions effectively, regardless of their internal disagreements.
